Mahir สื่อสิ่งพิมพ์:pdf AbstractThe fungus isolated from corn plants exhibiting downy mildews in the field nicited similar symptoms on inoculated corn plants. Infected plants became chlorotic 2-7 days after inoculation. The biology of the aetiological fungus was study in term of the development, morphology and cytolgy of asexual fruiting structure. Conidiophores of the fungus emerge singly or in groups from stomata of infected leaves as knob-like structures after 3 hrs of incubation. The knob-likd structures measured 5.5-14.5 um in diameter and later elongted, enlarged and bifurcated to from the primary, secondary and tertiary branches. When matured, the erect conidiophores measured 180-300 um. Conidial initials start to develop at the tip or the conidiophores after 5.5 hrs, and the number of conidia per conidiophore range from 8-96. The conidia were hyaline and sub-orbicular to almost spherical in shape measuring 15-28.9 x 15-26.9 um. Most of the matured conidia are detached of discharged from the conodiophores after 7-8 hrs of incubation. The conodiophores and the conidia are multimucleated with number of nuclei ranging from one to several. Based on the above description, the fungus causing downy mildew of corn in Malaysia is tentatively identified as Peronosclerospora sorghi. |

(DPB) were tested for their inhibitory activity against three foodborne pathogenic microorganisms (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella derby) and five foodborne spoilage microorganisms (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, Lactobacillus sp., Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger). Screening for antimicrobial activity using disc diffusion assay showed the inhibition of all tested microorganisms by DPB. On the other hand, only two of the test microorganisms (S. aureus and Lactobacillus sp.) were inhibited by FPB. Likewise, Lactobacillus sp. was the only test microorganism inhibited by DPN. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC’s) of the extracts were determined using agar dilution method on the same test microorganisms. Extract from DPB gave MIC values ranging from 160 to 10,240 parts per million (ppm). Results showed S. cerevisiae as the most sensitive and B. subtilis as the least sensitive to the extract. Both FPB and DPN extracts did not show growth inhibition of test microorganisms at the highest concentration used (10,240 ppm). |

Six TGMS lines were planted during hot and cool seasons, and the results showed that TGMS lines respond to the prevailing temperatures at the time of the critical stage of TGMS lines at specific location. At Kamphaeng Phet, the six TGMS lines were all male sterile when planted in June 2002 and January 2003. Cool season planting in November 2003 that flowered in January to first week of February produced fertile pollen, and produced filled spikelets up to about 76.8%. At Chiang Mai, spikelet fertility of TGMS lines was observed as high as 77.4%. Kamphaeng Phet during cool season, and the high altitude areas in Chiang Mai are suitable locations for seed increase of TGMS lines. However, more experiments should be conducted to determine the suitable planting dates that could give highest spikelet fertility for seed multiplication of specific TGMS line. TGMS lines producing self-seeds under sufficient low temperature and showing sterility under temperature above 30?C indicated that TGMS lines could be used as parental line for developing two-line hybrid rice in Thailand. |
